Which compounds appear, and why?
PT-141 (bremelanotide) is the selective MC3R/MC4R analog with a clinical literature and 2025 hamster work. Melanotan 2 is the non-selective analog, with a record dominated by analytical and dermatology papers. Oxytocin appears through its central signaling studies. hCG enters through gonadotropin research, including a 2024 systematic review.
What do the studies measure?
Receptor binding and selectivity across MC1R to MC5R, behavior in rodent and hamster tests, central versus peripheral signaling for oxytocin, and, for hCG, clinical endocrine endpoints in defined patient groups. The 2025 hamster study of bremelanotide and the 2026 mouse study of peripheral versus central oxytocin are typical of the behavioral work.
