WADA Prohibited List
The WADA Prohibited List is the World Anti-Doping Agency’s official list of substances and methods banned in sport. It is updated every year.
Where the word comes from
“Prohibit” comes from the Latin prohibere, “to hold back,” built from pro-, “in front of,” and habere, “to hold” — to prohibit is to hold something back before it happens. WADA, the World Anti-Doping Agency, was established in 1999 to coordinate anti-doping rules across sports and countries. It has published the Prohibited List ever since, with a new edition taking effect each year.
What it means here
Several categories of research compounds appear on the list, including many peptides studied in growth-hormone and other hormone pathways. A substance can be on the list even though it is not an approved medicine anywhere. Tested athletes are responsible for checking the current list before handling any compound, because anti-doping rules apply no matter how a product is labeled. A Research Use Only label does not change a substance’s status in sport. When a compound in our catalog sits in a listed category, that is a fact worth knowing before any decision.
